What is extractions?

Simple extractions remove teeth that are visible above the gum. Surgical extractions handle teeth that are broken at the gum line, have curved roots or have not fully come in.

If you want to replace the tooth later, we can preserve the bone at the same visit so a dental implant is easier down the road.

Extractions FAQ

Does a tooth extraction hurt?

You should feel pressure but not pain during the procedure. Afterward, soreness is usually mild and improves within a few days.

How long does it take to recover from a tooth extraction?

Most people feel normal within 1 to 3 days. The gums fully close in 1 to 2 weeks.

What is dry socket?

Dry socket happens when the blood clot in the socket is lost too early, causing aching pain a few days later. Avoiding straws, smoking and spitting helps prevent it. Call us if you notice it.

Can I get a tooth pulled the same day?

For urgent pain or infection, call (775) 284-2500. We work to see urgent patients as quickly as possible.

Should I replace an extracted tooth?

Replacing a missing tooth helps prevent shifting and bone loss. A dental implant is the most natural option, and we can preserve bone at the time of extraction.
